Of kolaches and wizards

Last Thursday my awesome friend and Psychic-Twin Katie and I drove up to Fort Worth to see the final Harry Potter with my fellow Longhorns. Just the drive was awesome for a great many reasons, including our attempt at reenacting a famous How I Met Your Mother scene. (click it, you know you want to)

Anyways, along the way we sang way too loudly to Katie's iPod, ate some delicious kolaches from West, and shared some bonding stories. On the way back, we shared even MORE bonding stories, and ordered even MORE kolaches, which made for a very good roadtrip indeed.

When we got there we picked up Eric, my fellow Harry Potter ubernerd, and drove to Corey's house, where we met up with Corey and William. We drove to the mall to kill time, where we had a wonderful time joking and simply enjoying each others' company, falling back into sync as if the two months spent apart were two days. We ate a wonderful meal complete with wonderful dessert, went home and changed into costume, and finally drove to the movie theater for what I consider the finale of my childhood.

 Yum

I know it's a bit pathetic, but I cried for most of the movie. I cried partly because of the story which, although very different from the book, proved to remain faithful in epicness to its source material. But mostly I cried because, although it sounds sappy, I was watching the end result of days spent reading and nights spent dreaming about a magical world that shaped who I am today. Not only that, but I was watching it with a few of the people I love most.

The next day was so happy, and made me ache desperately for UT. The few hours of morning we had together we spent laughing and playing silly drawing games and catching up. I felt like I was back home on campus, and it nearly killed me to go home. We said farewell to each other and split, promising we'd see each other before too long. I read once that being in college means having two homes and two families. While I do cherish the time I spend at home with my real family, I'm itching SO BADLY to get back to campus and have some fun times with my other one.

Farewell for now!

It's like flying, only with more bruises

I think I'll start out by saying that I'm a daredevil. I love roller coasters, jumping in whitewater rapids, and simply being reckless in general. My greatest ambition is to go skydiving in the near future.

That being said, tubing terrifies me. I don't know if I had some terrible run in when I was little where a tube tried to kill me or what, but being dragged behind a speedboat basically being waterboarded is not my idea of fun.

The family reunion I talked about was at my grandparents lake house. I was enjoying swimming around with my sisters and cousins until my uncle finally coerced me onto the boat to go tubing. I wish I had pictures to put on here with my absolutely beautiful face of sheer terror, but they aren't in yet.

Despite my hesitance to get started though, I soon found that it was more fun than I remembered. Being the nerd I am, I pictured myself as Harry Potter, flying over the Black Lake on the wings of Buckbeak.

In reality, it was far less graceful than that, and I'm about 90% sure my bathing suit came off shortly before I faceplanted at high speed into the water.

That isn't me, but I'm pretty sure that's what it looked like.

Anyways, after two turns I had enough, and decided that it's way more fun to watch other people hurl themselves into the water than to be hurled myself. If you've never heard of the term schadenfreude, follow that link to go look it up.

The story has a happy ending though, because I did not drown and got to eat some delicious cake afterward, my uncle serving me a particularly big "bravery slice". Yeah, my family's just that awesome. ;)

Is this thing on?

I feel like I should have something more clever and witty to say, something that will charm and enchant whoever reads this. Alas, all I have to offer is one small and somewhat cliched "I don't know what to write". I thought I would jump on the bandwagon with my good friends William and Eric, but now that I'm here I'm a bit intimidated.

But, if you're reading this, welcome!

I read once on a blog that the best way to keep people interested is to keep things short and sweet, so people don't tl;dr and go find something more entertaining to do. However, I've never had a knack for keeping things succint, so if you plan to read, prepare yourself!

I promise I'll try to keep things at least a little bit interesting. My hope is to use this blog to maybe post a bit of my writing here and there, spread things I find interesting, crack people up with my GLORIOUS sense of humor, or simply share what's going on in my life.

It's already midnight though, so with that I end my first post. I'm going to a family reunion tomorrow, so I'll be sure to post any shenanigans that might happen.
Farewell :)
